The Sand Dollar continues to be Lotty's most precious and favourite beach find. She says that it is very rare to find them undamaged on the beach as they don't survive the rough and tumble of the surf.

Lotty says: "It is so delicate and easily broken that managing to find one in perfect condition usually requires quite a deep dive and very careful holding while bringing them to the surface, especially if you have a handful to deal with."
The name derives from the appearance of these skeletons and early discoverers thought they looked like Spanish dollars!
